The 2016 Lincoln MKZ is one of the most competitive luxury sedans in Lincoln range. This Ford’s luxury brand has recently recovered from the constant downfall it faced since the nineties, and now it offers some nice alternatives to the most popular luxurious brands and MKZ is one of those.
One of the main rivals of this car is the Lexus ES, and there are plenty more Lexus, Cadillac and Acura rivals that compete in this class. Not to mention German carmakers like Mercedes, Audi and BMW that also have a lot to offer in this segment. The thing that separates MKZ from the rest of this crowd is the hybrid version that can be bought for almost the same price as the regular base model and all-wheel drive that is not that common in the class of luxury sedans. Since in 2014 this vehicle was completely redesigned it will be the same as for the last year and it doesn’t come with too many changes.
MKZ is based on Ford Fusion, and with Ford further developing the Fusion range and adding some luxury features onto it, the higher Fusion trim levels also compete with MKZ. It comes with popular Lincoln two piece narrow grilles that is one of the best trademarks of this model line. Another great feature that this vehicle has is an ingenious fuel filler system that secures that you don’t get your hands dirty or don’t forget your cap on the petrol station. If Lincoln wants to become competitive on the luxury sedan segment they need to deliver this type and similar features to distinguish it from other brands.
2016 Lincoln MKZ Review
When it comes to interior of 2016 Lincoln MKZ, it comes with nice array of features while offering nice styling, but the biggest remark for this model is the low quality materials used in building its cabin. There is plenty of hard plastic bits inside and much less soft touch materials, wood trim and carbon-fiber than in other vehicles from this luxurious class. From hi-tech features this model comes with large touch screen display that has MyLincoln Touch infotainment system installed, which is the version of much more popular MyFord Touch. Some reports say that this system is little bit difficult to use and that its controls are a bit confusing. Display is placed on central console and is a dominant element that will attract most attention.
There are three engines to choose when it comes to this model. Base version comes with no less than turbocharged engine with 2.0 liter displacement. This engine is able to produce 240 horsepower and 270 pound feet of torque. When it comes to fuel efficiency it is able to reach 22 mpg in the city conditions and 33 mpg on the highway with front wheel drive. Second option, also the most powerful option in the lineup is the 3.7 liter naturally aspired V6 that comes with 300 horsepower and 277 pound feet of torque.
Hybrid can develop 188 horsepower and 188 pound feet of torque with its combination of 2.0 liter four cylinder engine and synchronous AC electric motor that is powered by 1.4 kWh Lithium-Ion battery pack. Without a doubt this is the most fuel efficient option that you can get from MKZ lineup and it can return 41/39 mpg city/highway which is quite impressive for a luxury vehicle of this size.
The 2016 Lincoln MKZ comes with an average price for this class of cars. The base version can be bought for slightly above $35,000 and all-wheel drive adds about $2,000. Interesting thing is that same price is for all three versions, no matter if you choose 2.0 liter turbocharged unit, naturally aspirated V6 or the hybrid powertrain it will come with the same price tag. Black Label version will cost you about $45,605 and again you can add AWD on top of this. It is less expensive than similar Mercedes and BMW models, and it comes with the price that is similar to the one that Acura TL has.
