The Honda S2000 came as a roadster coupe model, and its fame lasted from 1999 to 2009, when the company decided to retire it, and since then they were without a full blooded sport car. But, there are some great news which will warm the hearts of the Honda’s race car enthusiasts since we could hear that the 2016 Honda S2000 could come to the market.
Honda has decided to once again make the famous NSX and S2000 models, and once again offer a lineup of sport cars, and that lineup will also include the subcompact S660 roadster. As a totally worthy representative, and with the performance it will offer, the new S2000 will have a place between the NSX and S660 models. We are sure that it will be able to again compete with much more powerful and more expensive vehicles like it was the case before, with previous generation model.
The most interesting thing in a sports car is definitely the engine, and the S2000’s front engine-RWD configuration won’t be carried over, instead, the 2016 Honda S2000 will be a mid-engine vehicle. As far as the engine lineup is concerned, it will come with a 4-cylinder unit, but it is still uncertain which one of 4-cylinders it will get. There are some rumors that claim that it will be the 2.0 l turbo, combined with an electric motor, and paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This combination should be able to generate more than 350 hp and give the 2016 S2000 the well-known roaring engine sound. This has not been confirmed for now, but a sporty hybrid with a competitive price is something that many of the S2000’s fans would like to see.
Regarding the outside design of the 2016 Honda S2000, it will be offered as a 2 + 2 seating arrangement, and wear a standard coupe style. Of course, the well-known smoothness of the lines that were seen on the previous model will once again be there, but this time it will have more rounded edges, and although it will be offered in the standard coupe size, it will have a cut-down back end. As far as the front end goes, it will be enhanced with the chrome striped grille and a much lower and bigger air intakes. Furthermore, both ends will receive redesigned lights, while the back end will come with a sporty looking spoiler and massive round exhaust tips.
If Honda wants to attract old customers that were in love with original S2000 they will really need to bring design and looks similar to previous version. What we could see and hear till now suggest that this will happen and that Honda will stay true to the roots.
As far as the cabin of the new S2000 goes, this is where the car gets a minus point. The previous models were all offered as convertible versions, meaning that they came with a great deal of free head space, even though the leg room was not their biggest highlight. The new model, as we already said, comes as a coupe, and unfortunately, it doesn’t offer plenty of head space, nor the leg room. Regarding the rest of the inside, lively colored modern materials will be used for the cabin upholstery, while the seats will come with contrast red stitching and highlights. The dashboard will come with a curvy design, a touchscreen equipped with navigation and with round air vents. Some of the other standard features will include a premium audio system, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, 4G LTE and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
2016 Honda S2000 Price
As for the price of the new 2016 Honda S2000, the expected range ought to be in between $35,000 and $40,000. Even this has not been officially confirmed we can agree with these assumptions and we would be glad to see hybrid car like this offered in aforementioned price range. When it comes to the release date, the model should appear in the first half of the 2016 while the deliveries should start shortly after launch.
