One of the most iconic full size SUVs on the market, the Escalade, just received a massive update last year with the 2015 model which introduced a new interior as well as a much cleaner look. The 2016 Cadillac Escalade is going to be a further development of that upgrade which is also likely going to feature new engines, slightly updated interior equipment and a slightly different look for the higher end version.
Just like before, the body-on-frame construction is still going to be kept, feature which gives the car a massive advantage when it comes to the maximum towing capacity or when it comes to the off-road capability which is certainly stronger than some other European offerings. Great features of previous generation models earned iconic status for this lineup and Cadillac certainly intends to exploit this and to further build on it.
2016 Cadillac Escalade Price
The release date for this new model hasn’t been set just yet but considering it will be a slight update of an already new car, we do expect it to be available slightly further down the road. We assume that the SUV is going to be released some time at the end of 2016 while the base price of $73,445 will remain unchanged. However, new model in the lineup will start at roughly $90,000, but more on that a bit later.
We still think that the Escalade is a bit too big for this market but considering it sells great, then there is really no reason for Cadillac to shrink it. The standard rear wheel drive and very soft suspension system make from the Escalade a true highway cruiser and the optional all-wheel drive system will easily allow it to go on mild off-road as well. Do not expect a lot in off-roading from this model but still it brings decent capability and options.
The 2016 Cadillac Escalade will see an upgrade in terms of engines and even though the current 6.2 liter naturally aspirated V8 is still great, offering 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, the Escalade is one of the worst cars on the market in terms of fuel consumption. Because of that, Cadillac is likely going to offer the Escalade with a smaller 3.6 liter twin-turbocharged V6 which could offer as much as 450 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque, all while offering a 15% to 25% better fuel efficiency, an improvement which has been rumored for quite some time.
The new model might also ditch the current 8 speed automatic transmission in the favor of a newly developed 10 speed unit which would furthermore improve fuel economy while allowing the car to keep the engine at the optimum revs for longer. The performance of the SUV won’t improve all that much despite the higher power of the engine, so we will likely get a 0 to 60 MPH time of 5.5 seconds while the top speed is going to be limited to around 115 MPH.
The inside of the new Escalade is going to see only a minor update from the previous generation which will very likely include a new navigation unit that will run the new Android operating system. This will be slightly faster than previous GM’s unit while it will also offer a bigger app environment. As a result you will ba able to optimize it better to suit your needs. The seats are going to be the same as before but the new top end model will likely get new fully electrically heated and ventilated seats as standard, feature which was previously just an option.
The exterior of the 2016 Cadillac Escalade on the other hand will only change in a very subtle way and only on the top end model. This will receive a new pair of headlights with a new pattern for the daylight running light system while both the front and rear bumper are going to be altered in order to make the car look a bit more aggressive than the base model. The back will even get a new exhaust system which will be integrated into the bumper, small amount of details will be changed but still it is nice improvement.
