The Lacrosse is somewhat of a full-size executive sedan based on a front wheel drive platform, so at its core it is a smaller car than it really is. In the real World, this combination gave the car quite an unusual behavior despite the fact it had a special suspension system. The new version of the car, the 2016 Buick Lacrosse, is going to be based on the new E2XX platform.
Usage of new platform sill means that we are getting a front wheel drive base but this time it will use lighter materials such as composites and even aluminum. This is needed in order to increase both the performance as well as the fuel efficiency of the cars in the lineup. Another benefit of the lighter body is the improved handling and when on top of that we add special suspension it is more than obvious that we will be getting one pretty good vehicle.
2016 Buick Lacrosse Price
Changes aren’t going to be just cosmetic and despite the fact that the car hasn’t even been announced, there have been a few spy shots of a camouflaged prototype which show a similar size to the older model. However, the similarities stop here because both the front and rear ends are quite different even though they’re currently camouflaged. The interior will also see improvements as well as the engines which are expected to become more fuel efficient and slightly more powerful. The base price is said to be over $31,000, just like previous year model, which might seem like a bit too much but if the equipment is right than the car might just be worth it.
Engine wise, the 2016 Buick Lacrosse will likely carry over the current 3.6 liter naturally aspirated V6 which won’t get any upgrades and will pump out roughly 305 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. The fuel consumption will likely remain identical which should be ok. However, this is not going to be the only engine available on the model. In fact, it will likely see the introduction of a new turbocharged mill in the form of a 4 cylinder engine. This might provide as much as 300 horsepower and more than 330 lb-ft of torque, allowing for better fuel economy and performance but also a higher price tag. Both of these will ditch the current transmission in the favor of the all-new 9 speed automatic which has been developed in cooperation with Ford.
The top end trim level on the other hand might finally see a high performance model of the car. This will likely use a 3.6 liter twin-turbocharged V6 which may produce as much as 400 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. Unlike the other two, it will only be available with all-wheel drive which will be needed for delivery of the massive power that this engine produces. Another option is for those that would like to slightly reduce fuel consumption. Hybrid version, at this moment available only as a mild hybrid, comes in combination with either 3.6 liter V6 or with 2.4 liter unit and are slightly more expensive than the base version.
Just as we said, the inside of the Lacrosse will see an upgrade, both in terms of materials as well as equipment. The base version of the car will likely not offer leather upholstery but a premium cloth one which many people still prefer. On top of that, the infotainment system is going to be upgraded to an Android based one which will not only be easier to use but it will also give a lot more functions to the driver. Furthermore, it will be able to be used as a navigation unit without paying anything extra which is always a nice bonus.
The exterior of the 2016 Buick Lacrosse on the other hand will change, but to what extent we don’t really know. The actual size of the car will remain quite similar to the current model but both the front and rear end are going to change. The front will likely make use of a new general design that will likely set the trend for the future Buick vehicles. The back will also change and a new exhaust system is expected on the higher end versions. Another possibility is that the spy photos we were able to see are from the facelifted model that will come for 2017th year but there are still no confirmations about this.
