Most people know that Acura is the luxury division of Honda and that their cars are usually a lot more luxurious and also quite a bit more comfortable than the Honda counterparts mostly because Acura usually develops its own suspension systems. The 2016 Acura TLX is the perfect example of that, being a Honda Accord at its core with a softer and more comfortable suspension system, a much more luxurious interior as well as a nicer general look. However, for an untrained eye most differences stop here because the car has pretty much the same engines as the Accord as well as a very similar interior in terms of size and sitting position.
While this may be true, the car couldn’t be more different. We can say without a doubt that it is a new car which feels completely different than the Accord. It has just been released and it is supposed to go on sale in just a couple of months for a base price of around $33,000 which may seem a bit high, but the car is actually cheap considering all the equipment it offers as standard.

Just as we said, the suspension system is better than that of the Accord because it can absorb bumps a lot easier. On top of that, even though it is softer, the 2016 TLX doesn’t lean in the corners all that much so for all the drivers out there, it is quite enjoyable on the road. With higher level of sound insulation this will also improve comfort even on roads that are not in perfect condition.
In terms of engine lineup it is almost identical to what the Accord has to offer. As standard it comes with a naturally aspirated 2.4 liter inline 4 engine which is good for up to 206 horsepower. While it isn’t as much as some of its turbocharged competitors, the engine feels quite good and thanks to the 8 speed automatic gearbox, it is quite smooth as well. Its only drawback is its fuel consumption which isn’t as good as some of its competitors, expect to see 24/35 mpg city/highway. Take into account that this engine is only available with the front wheel drive system.
The better choice in our opinion would be the bigger, smoother and more powerful 3.5 liter naturally aspirated V6 which is good for up to 290 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque. The best part about it is that it has cylinder deactivation system, so at highway speeds it can deactivate up to 3 cylinders in order to save fuel. Thanks to this it is able to get the same fuel consumption as the smaller inline 4 engine, at least on highway. Unlike its smaller counterpart, this V6 only comes with a 9 speed automatic gearbox and either front wheel drive or all-wheel drive, making it the logical choice. In terms of performance, it can get the 2016 Acura TLX up to 60 MPH in 5.7 seconds and up to a maximum top speed of 134 MPH which is plenty for its class.
The inside of new TLX is just as impressive as its engines. While the general layout of the interior is quite similar to the Accord, in terms of comfort and luxury the TLX is a lot better. It comes as standard with an infotainment system that brings 10 speakers, leather upholstery, aluminum inserts, very comfortable seats which can be further upgraded to the same levels as those in a much more expensive cars as well as an automatic cruise control system.
Exterior of the 2016 Acura TLX on the other hand might look quite familiar to those who previously owned an Acura. While it is quite new and it offers all the nice lines of the current design language of Acura, the car looks a bit like a smaller version of the TL, with a very similar front end, a more aggressive rear end as well as the new Jewel-eyes LED headlights and LED tail lights which may the car stand out.
