We are pretty sure that the 2015 Ford F-150 will be quite similar to the last year Atlas Concept that was delivered at the Detroit Auto Show. Changes for the production version are expected but nothing dramatic we hope.
One of the latest reports regarding this new 2015 Ford F-150 is that it might be offered with great amount of aluminum parts. Best selling vehicle on the U.S. market could bring some significant weight reductions thankfully to extensive usage of aluminum.
Launching this vehicle should be little tricky because of this if it comes with aluminum construction. Even before the concept was announced we did know that the 2015 model will be offered with weight reduction. This would be achieved with addition of aluminum parts instead of heavy steel and similar materials.
Changes For 2015 Ford F-150
Initial reports suggested that the 2015 Ford F-150 will be offered with aluminum hood, doors, tailgate and roof but according to latest reports list of aluminum made segments might be much extensive. It seams that the entire body might be made out of aluminum but only time will tell. Certainly it is an improvement and it is great to hear that it will offer structural integrity at the same level like before or even improve previous results.
We could already hear that the 2015 Ford F-150 is delayed for about 10 weeks because of few problems with aluminum related segments that caused problems in manufacturing process. If only few parts are made from aluminum than there is no need for such a long delays pointing out that pretty soon we will be getting car with much more aluminum than we thought.
2015 Ford F-150 Release Date
What everyone knows is that this extensive usage of aluminum will result in a much lower overall weight for this car. When weight reduction is combined with a new 10 speed automatic transmission that might be delivered it will result in much better fuel economy. Expectations say that it could be from 20 to 30 percent and similar.
Announced weight reduction at first was from 200 to 750 pounds and most suggested that about 300 pounds would be realistic but Ford managed to push this much further. About 700 pounds will trimmed from the weight of the previous model which is quite great improvement. With this weight reduction not only that we will be getting much better performances it will be much better on fuel economy. Increased weight is another factor for pretty low agility and now we have improvements in this segment with better handling but about this and other most important after the official launch and after we get some ride time with it.
There is no doubt that all this combined in one vehicle could make significant changes on the market. We will be getting one quite capable truck just like always with great tow rating while the fuel economy will be improved thankfully to extensive usage of aluminum and other lightweight materials. We need to say that it still needs to offer possibility to drivers to do everything like before in terms of their job and goods transportation.
