Only few months ago we delivered news about the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and what are our expectations. Rumors we could hear than were not far from the truth but we are quite surprised with the amount of power that this muscle car will offer and we do know that these numbers are the most important in this segment.
Under the hood of the retro looking yet modern 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is the supercharged 6.2 liter V8 Hemi engine that produces incredible 707 hp. With this amount of power it is quite obvious that it will be an easy task to make this model one of the legends on the road.
Since the power is all that matters on the muscle car market we need to compare this model with other vehicles in segment. The Camaro ZL1 comes with 127 hp less than this vehicle, the V10 powered Viper offers 67 hp less while the Shelby Mustang GT500 comes short for about 45 hp. There is no doubt that many customers will be attracted with the power that engine pumps out but it will be interesting what will it be able to do on the track. Competition is quite strong but we are sure that Dodge will manage to attract many to at least consider this model as true contender.
2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Price
When we have a powerful engine to start with, that engine is already stressed out and any change can lead to destruction of it. Starting point for the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat was the 6.4 liter Hemi that was de-stroked to 6.2 liter displacement and supercharged. To be able to withstand additional load it came with forged steel crank, forged pistons, carbon coated pins, powdered forged rods and many other improvements.
Among other things the higher grade aluminum which is also more expensive was used for the heads and those needed to be perfected so they could withstand 700 plus hp. Supercharger needs to be cooled down with dual water to air intercoolers, this IHI screw-type supercharger will push the boost to desired level in every occasion driver needs.
All the power is transferred to the rear wheels through a eight speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission that comes as option or the standard Tremec TR6060 six speed manual gearbox. It will be interesting to see which one will be more popular and for which more buyers will opt. When it comes to the exhaust we are getting almost straight through version that comes with electronic valves which will further improve the sound of the engine.
Cost Of 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat
At this point we are not able to say the official price at which the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat will be offered on the market but we do expect it to be in the similar range like the Camaro ZL1 or Mustang Shelby GT500. Anything between $42,000 to $55,000 is a possibility. As the release date approaches we will be getting more details in this segment.
