Not many changes are offered for the 2014 Mazda CX-5 but we do get some really nice improvements. Both Touring and Grand Touring models are offered with larger engines and more power but the best part of this is that the fuel economy has not been significantly affected.
New features also include new systems that will make life easier for the driver. There is now the Smart City Brake Support and collision warning system. To improve comfort we now have HD and Pandora radio services integrated in infotainment system. All these new features make this vehicle safer but also nicer place to be since the quality of interior has been risen.
Specs Of 2014 CX-5
Let’s start with engines and what is under the hood of the 2014 Mazda CX-5. Just like the previous year model new version comes with 2.0 liter 155 hp and 150 lb-ft of torque engine that offered decent performances and pretty good fuel economy. Power is transferred to wither front wheels only or to all wheels through a six speed manual transmission while the six speed automatic comes as a option.
More powerful option is the new engine of 2.5 liter displacement and four cylinders that produces 184 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque. Standard for this version is the six speed automatic transmission and comes with either with front wheel or all wheel drive system. This was the segment to which most drivers and potential buyers had complaints. The 2.0 liter unit with 155 hp just was not enough for those that want slightly sportier drive feel and this is now accomplished with new unit.
Even larger unit comes with more power it manages to offer almost identical fuel economy. The 2.0 liter is rated by EPA at 26/32/29 mpg in city/highway/combined drive cycle when paired with front wheel drive and automatic transmission. When we add all wheel drive we are getting 25/31/28 mpg and the manual version is capable of delivering 26/35/29 mpg. For the 2.5 liter version we are getting 25/32/37 in front wheel drive and 24/30/26 in all wheel drive models.
Change and improvements are also offered to the interior of this vehicle. We are getting modern, functional and attractive looks and even the materials used could be of higher quality it certainly does offer a lot. We are not getting anything special but it can compete with other models in this market segment.
2014 Mazda CX-5 Review
Just as always the safety has been one of the segments to which buyers dedicate a lot of attention and is among the top and most important things when buying cars. As a standard we are getting stability and traction control with ABS while there are front side airbags and side curtain aribags for protection in case of accident. On the crash test 2014 Mazda CX-5 received four out of five stars as overall results while we were getting five stars for side impact protection and four stars for frontal crash.
Price remains on similar level like it was the case with the previous year model and you will be able to buy the 2014 Mazda CX-5 for $21,395 in a base version while the better equipped models will cost more than $29,000. At this level it still allows it to be competitive and comparable with other offers in segment.
